Sourav Ganguly Reveals Three Possible Venues For Pink Ball Tests In India

One of the massive events in the 2019 calendar year for India was the introduction of the Pink Ball Test. The Virat Kohli-led side locked horns with the Bangladesh Cricket Team to play the first-ever Pink Ball Test match on Indian soil. It was the initiative taken by the latest president of BCCI Sourav Ganguly to bring back crowds to the stadium for a Test match.

Speaking of the same to Hindustan Times, Sourav Ganguly stressed the importance of creating events in the game of cricket to serve the goods for the cricket fanatics. He highlighted the idea of hosting a 4-nation tournament, which will bring the crowd to the venue in huge numbers throughout the competition.

He also took the ongoing Boxing Day Test between New Zealand and Australia as an example of the increase in viewership. Sourav Ganguly explained that fans wouldn’t visit the venue if the same Test is played somewhere else on a normal day. He believes that creating a special day for the events will help Test cricket to revive.

During his interview, Sourav Ganguly also revealed that Pink Ball Test is one such event, which will help the Test format to revive. He also added that the states like Mumbai, Bangalore and Gujarat would host the Pink Ball games in future apart from Kolkata during home series.

”We will have to work towards that. It just gets people interested to come. If New Zealand was playing Australia somewhere else, on some other day, it would not have got the same attention. But Boxing Day gets people together,” Sourav Ganguly said to Hindustan Times.

”That’s why it is about trying to create events. The Pink Ball Test was an event. It will happen all around the country. It happened in Kolkata; it will happen in Mumbai, Bangalore, Gujarat and it will bring people back to Test cricket,” he added.

Well, it would be interesting to see whether the Pink Ball Test will become a common fixture in India’s FTP or not. As of now, the Virat Kohli-led side is pretty happy with the way things are panning out. They also gave a green signal to play Pink ball Test in overseas if they arrange a practice game.
