Looking Forward To Play My Part As An Administrator In Hosting T20 World Cup 2021: Sourav Ganguly

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Sourav Ganguly said that it is a great honour for India to be hosting the ICC T20 World Cup next year. With almost a year left for the mega event, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the BCCI met in Dubai to reveal the brand identity of the tournament.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has earlier postponed ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 which was scheduled in October in Australia due to COVID-19. Australia will host the tournament in 2022. India will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 as planned in November.

It is a matter of great honour for us to host the event: Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly on Thursday said that it is a matter of great honour to be hosting the flagship event in India. He then pointed out that India has successfully hosted several ICC events since the 1987 World Cup. The World Cup 2016 was played in India, which was won by West Indies. He also feels that cricketers from around the world would be excited about playing in a country where cricket and its players are adored so much.

In an official release by the ICC, Sourav Ganguly is quoted as saying, “It is a matter of great honour for us to be hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. India has successfully staged several global events since the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 1987 and I am sure cricketers from around the world would be excited at the prospect of playing in our cricket-loving country.”

The former India skipper added that as a player he enjoyed playing in the ICC events and was thrilled by the atmosphere as millions around the globe are watching the game. Dada is looking forward to playing his role as an administrator for the mega-event.

The T20 World Cup will be the maiden ICC event for Sourav Ganguly as BCCI president. The 48-year-old had earlier organise the first day-night Test in India at the Eden Gardens against Bangladesh. Amidst the difficult situation created by the pandemic, BCCI has successfully conducted the IPL in the UAE.

“I have enjoyed being part of ICC events as a player and know from experience that nothing beats the buzzing atmosphere of a global cricket event with millions around the world watching every game. I now look forward to playing my part as an administrator as we prepare to host the prestigious event,” Sourav Ganguly added.

Along with hosts India, and Papua New Guinea, which is the latest team to qualify for the tournament, 14 other teams will participate in the World Cup- Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.
