In a historic move, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) accepted to Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) proposal to host a day-night Test in the upcoming 2-Test series between the two teams. India will thus host their first-ever pink-ball Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata from November 22. Meanwhile, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly thanks Virat Kohli for accepting the proposal.

India and Bangladesh are the only two top-ranked Test teams to have not played a Test under lights. India had ignored proposals from Australia and West Indies to play day-night Tests on the road, citing the lack of exposure to pink-ball cricket. Finally, with the Test Cricket losing its charm, the board has decided to introduce it to their fans.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday said the historic decision to regulate India’s first-ever Day-Night Test is based on “common sense”. And also, he added that it is the only way to revive falling crowd interest in the traditional format.

Test cricket needs this push – Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly thanked India captain Virat Kohli for agreeing to the proposal of playing day-night Test against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens, Kolkata from November 22. Besides that, he believes that the Test Cricket in India needs the change in order to survive.

“I’m extremely honoured that Eden Gardens will host the inaugural Day-Night Test match. I thank Bangladesh Cricket Board President & his team for accepting our request on such short notice,” Sourav Ganguly said.

“It’s a good development. Test cricket needs this push. Me and my team were bent on it. And also, thanks to Virat (Kohli), he agreed,” Ganguly told the Press Trust of India.

Bangladeshi team is scheduled to tour India for three T20 Internationals and two Tests, starting November 3. While the first Test will be played in Indore, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens will host the second match that will be team India’s first-ever Day-Night Test.
