While speculations are rife over the future of MS Dhoni, the former India skipper is yet to give any concrete statement on the same. Speculations were rife that MS Dhoni would retire at the end of the World Cup. However, the former India skipper left everyone surprised by not only deciding against retiring but also taking a two-month break.

Consequently, he could not make it to the ODI or the T20I squads for the just-concluded tour of West Indies. And while everyone was expecting Dhoni to return to action in the series against South Africa, he made himself unavailable for this series too. Thus, there is absolutely no clarity over Dhoni’s future.

Recently, the retirement talk resurfaced again due to Virat Kohli’s tweet. It eventually turned out to only a rumour. However, there is little denying that the talk over MS Dhoni’s retirement have not died down. Many including Kohli and chief selector MSK Prasad had said that Dhoni has the right to take a call on his future.

However, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has said Kohli and the selectors need to take a call on MS Dhoni.

“I don’t know what the selectors think, what Virat thinks. They are the important persons, let them make the decision,” Ganguly said.

India’s home season began with the first T20I against South Africa being washed out. The second match of the T20I series is scheduled to take place on September 18 in Mohali. Speaking about the series, the legendary cricketer said India are the favourites to win the series. India will play three T20Is and as many Tests against the Proteas.

“India are favourites. India at home is a dangerous team. They are very hard to beat and that’s been the case for years,” Ganguly said.

India will be confident of beating the Proteas at home after the stunning outing in the Caribbeans. India played a full-fledged series against West Indies but did not lose a single game.
