Sourav Ganguly's Brother Snehashish Ganguly To Become The Secretary Of The CAB: Reports

The rise of Sourav Ganguly as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had been meteoric. Ever since he got catapulted to the position, the Prince of Kolkata has laid out plans and implemented the same to bolster the status of Indian cricket further. And as per the latest reports from New Indian Express, his elder brother Snehashish Ganguly is set to become the secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

Sourav Ganguly’s brother’s rising through the ranks arrives along with the implications that Avishek Dalmiya is set to take over as the new president of the CAB. Avishek Dalmiya is slated to succeed Sourav Ganguly as the president of the association while Snehashish Ganguly will hold the secretary’s position. A special general meeting would take place in Kolkata on the 5th of February to announce the two candidates for the respective posts.

Dalmiya’s promotion to the presidential position arrives after his late father Jagmohan Dalmiya occupied it for several years. Snehashish Ganguly is a former first-class cricketer, who has a rich history. In 59 first-class fixtures, he amassed 2534 runs at an average of 39.59. The southpaw also featured in 18 List A games, mustering 275 runs at 18.33.

Snehashish’s appointment increases the number of former players in the administration currently:

Currently, there are plenty of players involved in administrative matters. The upcoming installation of Snehashish as the secretary of the CAB comes along with his brother Sourav, Mohammad Azharuddin (president of Hyderabad) and Roger Binny (president of Karnataka) as former inte­rnational cricketers, Jaydev Shah (president of Saurashtra) played first-class for a long time. Sanjeev Rao (secretary of Madhya Pradesh) and Devajit Saikia (secretary of Assam) both of who represented their states.

However, the rules of BCCI don’t state that the Board’s President’s relatives cannot hold any position in the state associations. As a matter of fact, BCCI Tresurer Arun Dumal is the brother of former president Anurag Thakur.
