Former South African skipper Graeme Smith admitted that South African batsmen looked clueless against aggressive wrist spinners in the form of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Meanwhile, India banked on Virat Kohli and the spinning duo to script history in the Rainbow Nation after 25 years.

Virat Kohli and Co became the first Indian team to win a bilateral series in South Africa. India outclassed the host as they beat South Africa 5-1.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep and Chahal were the star performers claiming 33 wickets together. South Africa lost the series trying to find an answer to their spin. The duo was praised by one and all for their attacking display of bowling.

Smith lauds the spinning duo:

The 37-year-old Smith cited Kuldeep and Chahal’s contribution as the main reason behind India’s success. Further, he admitted them to be a big find for India.

You got to wonder what the chat was about in the changeroom and how they go about it,” Smith said.

Obviously two world-class spinners, Chahal and Kuldeep, excellent finds for India. It’s just great to see some spin come back into the game. The mystery spinners had left the game for a period of time – the Ajmals, Warnes, Muralitharan’s, there’s been a little bit of a gap. So, it’s great to see two guys like that come into the game, it makes the game really interesting to watch,” Smith added.

Further, Graeme Smith feels South Africa didn’t have any separate plan for the young guns.

South Africa really had no thought, no plan B or C. It was really just dot ball, dot ball, ‘okay let’s have a swing.’ There was no real plan, let’s try to build a partnership, it was almost like as the partnership builds it gets slightly easier and South Africa never found a way to do that,” Smith mentioned.

Meanwhile, India is sitting pretty high beating South Africa in the first ODI by 28 runs. The Men in Blues are now 1-0 up in the three-match T20I series.
