South Africa’s apex board came up with a massive surprise by adding six uncapped players to the squad that will feature against the England team in the upcoming Test series. The first Test of the series is scheduled to play on December 26th, which will be called as Boxing Day Test. The forthcoming series will be the first assignment for Mark Boucher as the head coach of the team.

The Cape Cobras duo Dane Paterson and opening batsman Pieter Malan, the Lions’ trio Rassie van der Dussen, fast bowler Beuran Hendricks and all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius were named in the side. And also, the Warriors’ wicketkeeper/batsman Rudi Second have all been included in the Proteas squad which will assemble for a training camp later this week.

Faf du Plessis will lead the side:

Mark Boucher has made many adjustments to the squad which was whitewashed 3-0 by India during their last outing in the format. Theunis de Bruyn, Heinrich Klaasen, George Linde, Senuran Muthusamy and Dane Piedt have all been omitted. Alongside them, the injured-Lungi Ngidi also makes way.

Aidem Markram also named in the squad after he had fractured his wrist during India tour. Surprisingly, only one specialist spinner was named in the side in the name of Keshav Maharaj, who fought well against the Indian National Cricket Team with the ball and the bat.

The all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo also get a recall to feature in the upcoming series. Surprisingly, Temba Bavuma gets the nod again while the regulars Dean Elgar, the skipper Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock and Vernon Philander will continue on the side.

The young Zubayr Hamza also retains his place alongside Anrich Nortje. All in the all, the squad looks decent to compete against the Joe Root-led side in the 4-match Test series.

South Africa Squad:

Faf du Plessis (capt), Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Dean Elgar, Beuran Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, Pieter Malan, Aiden Markram, Zubayr Hamza, Anrich Nortje, Dane Paterson, Andile Phehlukwayo, Vernon Philander, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Rudi Second, Rassie van der Dussen
