Aussie wicket-keeper batsman Tim Paine has stated the fact that the South African players are not saying the truth in the case of Warner-de Kock spat on the 4th day of the opening Test at the Kingsmead in Durban. Meanwhile, Proteas team manager Mohammad Moosajee said on Warner was seen on CCTV footage needing to be restrained by team-mates on a stairwell as he launched a verbal volley in the direction of De Kock. He said that the verbal volleys intended at Warner were on his family and especially his wife, Candice Warner.

“That’s completely false. At no stage was Quinton’s family mentioned, that’s 100 percent false,” Paine was quoted as saying by the reporters on the events which destroyed the opening Test. Despite Australia winning the encounter, it was the De Kock-Warner controversy which took centre stage.

“I don’t know how their team manager can hear from where he’s sitting but from where I was, which was right near the whole time, there was nothing we said that was inappropriate,” he added. Warner was charged with a Level 2 offence by the ICC. It means he could miss the 2nd Test in Port Elizabeth slated to start on Friday. Meanwhile, courtesy their victory by 118 runs in the opening Test, the visitors lead the 4 match series by a 1-0 margin.

De Kock was charged with Level 1 offence

Proteas keeper Quinton de Kock was charged with Level 1 offence. Paine further added that there was a line which no members of the team would have crossed.

“Our stuff is the way we’ve always played our cricket,” he said. “Certainly it’s hard, and we like to make them feel uncomfortable out there.

“But we don’t cross the line and bring people’s wives and family into the cricket game. And we’ll continue to do that for as long as we play.” It is to be noted that this is not the first time that Warner has been involved in a controversy. During the 2013 Ashes, he was suspended from the tournament after punching England batsman Joe Root in a bar.
