The cricketing body of Sri Lanka national team, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), on Monday donated a hefty amount of LKR 25 million to the nation’s government, in order to help combat the Coronavirus Pandemic. The disease, which first originated in China, has now spread all across the world and has claimed nearly 15 thousand lives globally.

Sri Lanka is also fighting the outbreak and the nation’s cricket board have taken a step for a good cause. The SLC, after granting the sum, released a statement, on their official website, confirming the same. They also confirmed that the money will be transferred to the Sri Lankan government immediately.

Sri Lanka Cricket grants LKR 25 million to combat COVID-19:

The SLC, on their official twitter handle, informed people about their heartwarming gesture. Their tweet included the press release which had a further insight about the whole scenario.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has taken a decision to grant a sum of LKR 25 million to the Government to help its efforts toward combating the Covid-19 pandemic, which has created a national health crisis,” SLC tweeted. 

The press release further read, “Accordingly, the grant will be handed over to the Government immediately. Sri Lanka Cricket, whilst understanding the gravity of the ongoing health problem, has also taken several other steps to provide its fullest assistance to the Government in order to combat the crisis.”

All forms of professional cricket have been suspended in the nation, but SLC, until further notice. The Sri Lanka national team was due to host England for a two-match Test series, but owing to the fears surrounding Coronavirus, the health of fans, and the players and support staff, the series was called off. The cricketing body has also advised all their players and employees to remain in isolation until further notice.
