Sri Lanka have announced a 22-member probable squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand starting from August 14. The series will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship, and the host will be keen to make a winning start.
The squad has witnessed a return of former Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal, who last played for his country against Australia. He lost his place in the side in the wake of some poor returns and also didn’t find a spot in the ICC World Cup 2019 team. One of Sri Lanka’s batting mainstay, Chandimal will be keen to live upto the expectations and help his side secure an early lead in the two-year-long championship.
Beside Chandimal, the Sri Lankan selectors have also recalled spinners Akila Dananjaya and Dilruwan Perera. The veteran off-spinner had a dull outing the last time he turned up in the whites earlier this year against Australia. Dananjaya, on the other hand, has played only five Test matches with his last outing coming in 2018 against England. Dimuth Karunaratne will continue to lead the side against the Black Caps.
Sri Lanka will play their first game since their historic win against South Africa earlier this year. Veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews, who missed the last Test for Sri Lanka due to an injury has also made a return to the team.
