Sri Lanka could become the first team since March 2009 to play a Test in Pakistan. Recently, the Sri Lanka delegation visited Pakistan to examine the security arrangements and the positive feedback could see Sri Lanka play one Test of the two-match away series of the ICC Test championship in Pakistan in October.

UAE is the home venue of Pakistan since the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team 10 years ago. Teams have been reluctant to tour to the country and it hasn’t hosted a Test match due to terror activities in the country.

Although in 2015 Kenya travelled to Pakistan to play against their ‘A’ side. Later Zimbabwe also played in Pakistan but a bomb blast just a few kilometres away from the stadium raised questions over the security.

The Pakistan-Sri Lanka series will also mark a start of the Test championship for Sarfaraz Ahmed and co. They do not play any international fixture until the month of October.

For now, it is also not sure whether Sarfaraz will retain the captaincy post. PCB is likely to take a call on team’s coach and captain soon. The board did not renew the contract of head coach Mickey Arthur and other coaches after World Cup 2019.
