England wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow is likely to feature in the second Test against Sri Lanka following his return to the nets after injury on November 2 (Friday).

Meanwhile, Bairstow injured his ankle ligaments playing football during a warm-up session. However, he had his first proper batting session since in the Colombo nets this morning and appears ready to step up his recovery over the coming days.

Jonny Bairstow, however, will miss the first Test at Galle as he will not recover fully while Jos Buttler will take over gloves. But he is likely to return for the second Test starting from November 14. Pallekele is likely to be host despite accommodation problems for both the teams.

Regarding their preparations for the first Test, England enjoyed a mostly positive day at the Cricket Club of Colombo despite suffering a top-order collapse that saw them slip to 28 for three against a Sri Lanka Board XI. With the opening day washed out, a 50-over match took place to provide England some practice.

In essence, this was a glorified net session — no team could win even if their total surpassed that of the other side — but Keaton Jennings, Sam Curran, and Jack Leach all impressed. Jennings endured a lean Test summer showed some semblance of form with a patient 45 runs knock before retiring.
