Stephen Fleming Set To Coach Trent Rockets At The Hundred

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming looks set to be one of the coaches in the upcoming The Hundred. The former New Zealand skipper is looking set to take charge of the Nottingham-based side, Trent Rockets. Fleming is no stranger to playing cricket in Nottingham. He had enjoyed a very successful stint as a player with Nottinghamshire.

Fleming is also one of the finest captains to have played for New Zealand. He led them to the glory in the 2000 Champions Trophy which still remains New Zealand’s only global tournament success. He also led his country to Test series against India, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and West Indies. After his glorious playing career, he made a seamless transition to coaching.

He is one of the most decorated coaches in the history of the IPL. Fleming guided Chennai Super Kings to two IPL titles as well as two now-scrapped Champions League T20 titles. In 2017, he helped Rising Pune Supergiant make it to the final of the IPL against all the odds. He has also plied his trade as a coach in the Big Bash League.

“Fleming has expressed an interest and we have spoken to him,” Mick Newell, director of cricket at Nottinghamshire, confirmed. “We want all the other coaches to come from this area. We think that’s the right model for this competition.”

Stephen Fleming is not the only profile name who is set to be associated with The Hundred. Andrew McDonald and Mahela Jayawardene are also set to become head coaches in the inaugural edition of the competition. According to ESPNCricinfo, McDonald is set to coach Birmingham Phoenix while Jayawardene will take charge of Southern Brave.

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Daniel Vettori and Shane Bond are set to be named as deputies of McDonald and Jayawardene respectively. Legendary spinner Shane Warne has been linked with London Spirit. The report further claimed that current Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting is favourite to coach the team based at The Oval.
