Off late, Mental health has become a primary issue, which has started to make headlines. Especially, after Glenn Maxwell choosing an indefinite break from International Cricket. Recently, we came across the Indian National Cricket Team skipper Virat Kohli lending his support to Glenn Maxwell, now, Steve Smith is the latest cricketer to praise Maxwell for speaking about it honestly.

Glenn Maxwell took the decision to step aside from international arena for an indefinite period following the Australia-Sri Lanka T20Is Down Under. Surprisingly, before the tough call, Maxwell played a knock of 62 runs against Sri Lanka in the first T20I which helped Australia to post 233 runs in the match.

Virat Kohli recently praised Maxwell’s heart to admit to his mental problems while revealing that he himself faced them during his horrific run-of-form during the 2014 Test series in England. Now, Steve Smith further explained how the busy schedule of International Cricket affects the player mentally and also physically.

Pretty Hectic schedule nowadays – Steve Smith

Speaking ahead of the Australia-Pakistan Tests, the ex-skipper Steve Smith feels it is great that such thoughts are being shared by active cricketers as they go through a lot due to their restless schedule in the international circuit. He further explains how little things hurt the players most.

“It is a pretty hectic schedule nowadays. It’s bloody tough to sustain it for long periods of time, particularly I think for the fast bowlers. It’s extremely difficult what they put themselves through. It’s great that those conversations are happening and we’re trying to keep guys as mentally and physically fresh as they can be. I think it’s great those conversations are happening.

“We fill out daily how we’re feeling, how we slept… the sleep gets a big red every now and again. We fill out a wellness thing every day. The coach and psych and head of team performance look at our markers daily and it’s upon us, to be honest in the way we go about that as well. It’s good for guys’ mental health and wellbeing as well,” explained the 31-year-old as per Times now.

Maxwell has played 110 ODIs, 61 T20Is and 7 Tests for Australia. It would be interesting to see whether Glenn Maxwell will be part of the upcoming Indian Premier League or not. The flamboyant batsman will be crucial for Australia’s chances in the upcoming ICC T20I World Cup 2020 at home.

I just love what I script. Over the years, Cricket has been my passion and crisping articles on it gives me an immense pleasure...Cheers...!!!
