England pacer, Stuart Broad has said that winning The Ashes in Australia next year would be like Olympics as an Ashes — is the pinnacle in Test cricket for any player from either country.

Stuart Broad has been in thunderous form in the past three years, particularly in 2020, in red-ball cricket for England. In 2020, Broad has picked 34 wickets at an average of mere 14- his best in any year of his 14 year Test career. In the home series against West Indies post resumption of play in the pandemic era, Broad took his 500th Test scalp.

Being part of a successful Ashes tour next winter is like my Olympics: Stuart Broad

Speaking with Simon Hughes on The Analyst Virtual Cricket Club, Broad talked about the tour to Australia next year. He said that winning The Ashes away would be like Olympics for him, and that is his goal.

He also expressed his desire to keep playing despite people talking about his age. The pacer says that he has been bowling his best in the past couple of years as he is now the second in ICC’s Test bowlers rankings, behind Pat Cummins.

Talking with Simon Hughes , Stuart Broad said, “Going to Australia, winning and being part of a successful Ashes tour next winter is like my Olympics, if that makes sense. That is a goal that I really want to achieve, but I certainly don’t want to sit here and think that I’m targeting that as a great way to finish or anything.”

“I want to keep going, I want to keep playing. If I’m taking wickets for England, in the last year I’ve risen – I think – from 18th to second in the world on the bowling rankings.

He has a goal of improving and keep bowling better. He says he feels fresh and hasn’t had any major injury concerns in the recent past. The pacer cites the example of his bowling partner. Broad believes that James Anderson also has been peaking in the past three years. Broad says Jimmy is his inspiration and wishes to follow his path of succeeding even with growing age.

“I have a goal to keep improving. If I’m improving at this age, why can’t I improve next year? I still feel fresh, I still haven’t had too many injury concerns. Jimmy, from 34 to 37, was probably at his absolute peak. He’s my inspiration, so why can’t I do that?” Stuart Broad added.

Broad has a magnificent home Ashes last year where he picked 23 Aussie wickets at an average of 26, including seven those of David Warner. The seamer would hope to emulate the same performance in their series down under next year.
