Sunil Gavaskar Gives His Verdict On MS Dhoni’s Retirement Speculations
Since India’s ouster from the ICC World Cup 2019, speculations have been going around over former India skipper MS Dhoni’s retirement. Every single people have spoken about except the cricket himself. And now former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has given his verdict on the same.
Dhoni chose to make himself unavailable for the series against West Indies. Instead, he decided to serve the army in Jammu & Kashmir. MS Dhoni had an awful time in the ICC World Cup 2019 which raised speculation over his cricketing career. Subsequently, upon returning, he decided to take a break from the game.
The legendary cricketer remained out of action from the South Africa series as well. Recent reports suggest that MS Dhoni will be with the team till 2020 World T20 to ensure that the team is in safe hands.
But Sunil Gavaskar in an interview with India Today has stated that time is up for the illustrious cricketer. He also feels that Dhoni should step away with dignity and look forward.
“Dhoni’s time is up. With due respect, the time has come. India should look beyond. With the greatest of respect to Dhoni, I think he should be going without being pushed out,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
While everyone associated with team India – skipper, head coach, and the chief selector has backed MS Dhoni to continue and spoke about giving him the space to decide on his own terms. But his performance graphs has witnessed a sharp fall in recent times. It is high time the selectors should talk to the former skipper and take a call on his plans as early as possible.
