Former India cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar escaped unhurt after a door of the commentary shattered during the second T20I against Windies.

Tuesday was a special day for the people of Lucknow. The city was hosting an international game after 24 years. On the other hand, the stadium, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium, was hosting its first-ever international game. Not surprisingly, fans turned up in large number to witness the special occasion. Nearly 50,000 fans turned up at the stadium to witness the second T20I.

But things could have turned sour at the newly-built stadium.  However, a major accident was averted when former India captain Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar escaped unhurt after one of the glass doors of the commentary box shattered just as the duo were entering the enclosure. Both the former cricketers were lucky to return unscathed.

“One of the glass doors just crumbled like a pack of cards but luckily no one sustained any injuries. All are safe,” Manjrekar later said.

India thrash Windies to seal series:

Coming to the game, India rode on a stunning unbeaten century from skipper Rohit Sharma to beat Windies by 71 runs and seal the three-match series with a match in hand. Asked to bat first, India were off to a solid start. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan added 123 runs for the first wicket before the latter departed after scoring 43.  Rishabh Pant, who was promoted in the batting order, then failed to make the most of the chance.

However, Rohit remained till the end, scoring 111 off just 61 balls to guide India to 195 for 2. KL Rahul also played a handy knock of 26 off just 14.

In reply, Windies kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. They were five down for just 68 runs on the board. The visitors rarely looked in contention and were eventually restricted to 124 for 9.
