Kolkata Knight Riders’ off-spinner Sunil Narine made a comeback to the side against Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi. Sunil Narine could not play the last two games; however, made a roaring comeback by playing a match-defining knock and provided the much-needed impetus. The West Indian underlined that he is glad to be back after being absent for two games.

Sunil Narine batted at number five against Delhi Capitals as Kolkata Knight Riders found themselves at 42-3 at one stage. The left-hander launched an onslaught along with Nitish Rana, adding 115 runs. Capitals’ strike bowler Kagiso Rabada claimed Narine’s wicket in the 17th over for 64 off 32 deliveries, laced with six fours and four sixes. It was integral in lifting Eoin Morgan’s men to 194-6 in 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals elected to bowl first, making two changes by swapping Anrich Nortje for Daniel Sams and Ajinkya Rahane for Prithvi Shaw. Kolkata Knight Riders also carried a couple of changes as Sunil Narine replaced Tom Banton and Kuldeep Yadav made way for Kuldeep Yadav. The Knight Riders lost their last game woefully to Royal Challengers Bangalore, managing only 84 in 20 overs which the Royal Challengers chased down by eight wickets to spare.

Sunil Narine underlined that sending him up the order was part of the plan and revealed that he has a liking to play spin bowling. The Trinidad cricketer stated that they targetted a score of 160; however, are more than delighted to have 194 on the board. Narine added that it is a good wicket, having assistance for seamers and that their bowlers need to execute the wide yorkers well.

“It was a part of the plan, whatever the situation was. I back myself to play spin, but we have the momentum, so hopefully we take it into the field get some early wickets. We were looking for 160, but 194 is a good total. It’s a good batting track as well. I think there’s a little more (purchase) for the seamers. We need to execute the wide yorkers well. It’s been a while, so I’m happy to be back,” the 32-year old told in the mid-innings presentation.
