Michael Di Venuto says Surrey eagerly awaits for Virat Kohli for the county stint.

As confirmed earlier, the Indian captain, Virat Kohli will join Surrey next month to prepare for the upcoming England tour.

BCCI, under the insistence of Kohli, allowed the marquee player to skip the one-off Test match against Afghanistan, who will play their inaugural Test match, after achieving Test status last year. Afghanistan will play their first ever match in the whites at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bengaluru on June 14.

The Head Coach of Surrey, Michael di Venuto, suggested the County club is eagerly waiting for the best batsman in the world to start his stint at Oval.

We can’t wait. When it was announced, the guys, especially the youngsters, were so excited that they were going to be sharing a dressing room and playing cricket with him as we are as a staff,” di Venuto told Surrey’s official site.

Di Venuto already helped produce a Test great in Steven Smith, as he played a key role in his transformation from a leg-spinner to a specialist batsman.

Kohli holds a dismal record in Tests in England

I watched him a lot of times when I was in the Australian dressing room, and he was scoring a lot of runs, but I’ll definitely enjoy it a lot more when he’s batting and scoring runs for us,” Di Venuto said.

Kohli, until now, has conquered all foreign soil, from Australia to South Africa, and perhaps New Zealand, but has dismal records in Tests against England only.

Further, Kohli’s move to join the club came in the aftermath of his dreadful English tour of 2014, where he averaged just 13.40 in the Test series, falling prey to the fifth stump line of James Anderson.
