The United Nations, on Wednesday, designated Masood Azhar as a “global terrorist” after China lifted its hold on a proposal to blacklist the terrorist. The blacklisting means Masood’s financial assets will be frozen, he will be prevented from travelling across the world and won’t be allowed to purchase arms and ammunition. It was a huge diplomatic win for India as they had first approached the world body for the first time on the issue around a decade ago.  China had earlier blocked similar proposals to designate Azhar in 2009, 2016 and 2017.
