The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has preponed the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018 by a day, and now, the final of the tournament will be played on January 26 instead of January 27.

Previously, the final was to be played on January 27, the same day of the first day of the IPL auction. The final is an evening tonight game that will start at 5:00 PM and it would have served no purpose to IPL franchises on the first day. Taking this into consideration, the final has been preponed so as the franchises can keep a note of players until the eve of the day 1 of IPL auction and then look for any prospect if needed.

A change in the date of the final has already seen the tweak in the fixtures of the tournament to allow the final to be played on January 26.

Last year, the BCCI had preponed the whole tournament on the request of IPL franchises as had tournament been played in February, it would have served no purpose as IPL auction would have been done and dusted till then.

Since there is a mega-auction this time, the franchises need a big pool of players to choose. The IPL scouts are also out, performing their jobs and would have already submitted a report on the players whom they are impressed. Their job will continue until the final day of the T20 tournament.

The IPL auction for the seventh season of IPL will be a two-day affair where a total of 578 players will compete for spots in various IPL teams. On the first day of the auction, capped players will go under the hammer while on day two, the uncapped players will be up for grab.

Out of a total of 578 players, 360 are Indians. For the first time in the history of IPL, Joe Root has also signed up for the league and is looking for a buyer to render his services.
