Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019: Shreyas Iyer Scores Second T20 Hundred, Enters Record Books

As the IPL 2019 is nearing, Shreyas Iyer seems to peak at the right time. The Mumbai star player, on Sunday (February 24th), scored his second hundred in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019. Playing against Madhya Pradesh, the top-order batsman scored an unbeaten 103 off 55 balls – helping Mumbai chase a modest 144 in 16 overs. Not only this, but Iyer also hit ten sixes in an inning – for the third time in his career in T20s. In the match against Sikkim earlier, Shreyas Iyer scored 146 off 55, slamming 15 sixes during his knock.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) captain, Iyer will look to gain as much momentum as possible heading into the IPL 2019. Though his performance as a leader and with the bat in 2018 didn’t reap results for DC, he would like to alter the outcomes this season.

Meanwhile, he has been shining bright and high in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019. Against Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai bowled first after losing the toss. The hosts got all out on 143; courtesy four wickets from Tushar Deshpande and two wickets each from Mulani, Kulkarni and Thakur. While chasing, they lost Ajinkya Rahane and Prithvi Shaw on 0 and one, respectively. Even before MP could think of inflicting further damage on Mumbai, Iyer came to the rescue.

The right-handed batsman made easy work of Madhya Pradesh’s bowlers, scoring them for boundaries at will. Though Suryakumar Yadav took 36 balls to complete 39 runs with four fours to his name; Shreyas Iyer scored his second hundred of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 off 55 balls. During his knock, he hit five boundaries and ten massive sixes. As a result, Mumbai won the contest by eight wickets.
