Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal who has been a prolific run scorer for them across all three formats of the game notched up yet another milestone in his illustrious career. The southpaw achieved the 11,000 runs landmark in international cricket during the 2nd match of the ongoing Tri-Series against Sri Lanka at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium on Friday.
It was Bangla skipper Mashrafe Mortaza who won the toss and opted to at first. The southpaw started off proceedings with Anamul Haque Bijoy, and on the 4th ball of the 2nd over of the innings, the hard-hitting left-hander struck a sensational shot and made full use of the half-volley by Nuwan Pradeep which went past the mid-off fielder like a tracer bullet.
He joined the elite club of 11,000 clubs of Bangladesh players who has scored 11,00 runs in international cricket. He now has become the 67th player in the history of international cricket to amass 11,000 runs in international cricket.
Tamim went into the tournament still needing 89 runs to go past the mark, and after a match-winning knock of 84 in the first encounter against Zimbabwe he was just five runs away from reaching the milestone.
The flamboyant southpaw has been a consistent performer for the Tigers across formats. While he has scored 3886 runs in Test cricket at an average of 39.25, the southpaw has amassed 5850 runs in ODI’s. When it comes to shorter formats, Tamim has scored 1264 runs.
