Tamim Iqbal Hits 334, Scripts Historic Feat In Bangladesh Cricket

The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka was in for a treat as opener Tamim Iqbal hit a record 334 in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL). Tamim’s latest landmark augurs well for the Tigers as the sub-continental side look to produce excellence in the longest format.

The southpaw consumed 426 balls and stayed at the crease for 585 minutes. It is the highest individual score in Bangladesh cricket. The international batter was playing for East Zone in a contest against Central Zone in Mirpur. He became the second cricketer to hit a triple hundred with the first batsman being Raqibul Hasan. In the year 2007, Hasan hit 313. In reply to Central’s 213, East Zone declared on 555/2. Tamim hit three sixes and 42 fours along with quick ones and twos.

“I was very determined,” Tamim said on Sunday (February 2). “The wicket was playing good and the wicket was not spinning or doing that much and so I kept it very simple. After scoring three hundred, I took some chances. And in the whole innings I don’t think I had to do anything special. I just kept on batting, playing cricketing shots. And I was looking for boundary options rather than hitting over boundaries.”

Tamim didn’t spend much time in the 290s, he went after the opposition in style. After the day’s play, the batter said that he didn’t have the record breaking figure in mind until he got very close to the figure. He said that it’s a special feeling to have played the marathon knock.

“Till I had already made 260-270, I was not thinking about it [triple century]. When I touched 280, then I started thinking about it. If I had kept on thinking about it more, then it would have hampered my chances. So I tried to keep it very simple. That actually worked for me, which was good. Obviously it is a special feeling.” he added.
