Team India Donates 1,00,000 to the Cape Town Water Crisis Fund

Team India has donated R 1,00,000 to Cape Town water crisis fund. The city has been experiencing drought in the last few months which have limited their water supply to a huge amount. It was after the Men in Blue won the T20I series in Cape Town that the team decided to provide some help for the noble cause. The South African team also contributed for the cause.

The donated money by the two teams will be used to drill boreholes in order to supply water to the deceased areas and organizations which are in despair. As per a Cricket South Africa release, South African skipper Faf du Plessis said, “Both teams had first-hand experience of the Water Crisis in Cape Town and, having chatted to Virat, we decided to get our teams to sign some jerseys which we auctioned off with the funds raised going to assist the Cape Town Water Crisis.”

We wanted to create awareness says Kohli

“We also wanted to create awareness and hope that other organizations and sports codes follow in our direction,” added Du Plessis. Indian skipper Virat Kohli gave his views on the campaign which India are supporting. “Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and whenever we visit and play at Newlands, we are treated extremely well by the local people. By creating awareness of the drought, we are playing our part in highlighting the drought so people can see the seriousness of what’s taking place in the Mother City,” commented Kohli.

On January 1, the people of Cape Town rose to a Level 6 Water Restrictions. It meant that every person can use a maximum of 87 litres of water per day. There are households which use more than 0,500 lires per month. In those case water management devices are fit in their residence. The situation has been so pathetic that even 5 star hotels have asked guests to not take shower for more than a couple if minutes, They have also prohibited them from keeping the tap oven during shaving or brushing.
