Defending champions Mumbai Indians came in with a purse of INR 13.05 crores. They had retained their core players; however, also released some of the noteworthy players. They are particularly in need of able replacements for Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah, both of whom have a fragile body.

One of their surprise picks of the lot was Nathan Coulter-Nile for a whopping price of INR 8 crores. However, Chris Lynn looms as one of the best purchases, having bought him for INR 2 crores as against Kolkata, who previously bought him for INR 9 crores.

Kings XI Punjab walked into the auction with the maximum amount available, having INR 42.70 crores. They have also made some astute purchases, having a right blend of domestic and foreign recruits. Having suffered a woeful season last time, the franchise would be keen to turn the tables on their opponents with a fresh set of players.

Kings XI Punjab have also made some smart buys. By roping in Sheldon Cottrell and Chris Jordan, they have settled their new and death-bowling options. James Neesham and Glenn Maxwell give them the perfect balance in the squad, both of who can clear the fence flawlessly. Ishan Porel’s purchase also augurs well since he can bowl accurate yorkers and bouncers at 140 kph regularly. Below are their purchases:

James Neesham – INR 50 lakh
Ravi Bishnoi – INR 2 crores
Ishan Porel – INR 20 lakh
Deepak Hooda – INR 50 lakh

Similar to Sunrisers Hyderabad, they looked settled while walking into the auction. The three-time champions have stayed quiet almost throughout the proceedings, yet have jumped in to bid only for a few selective players.Josh Hazlewood may come as a surprise pick; however, his precision can extract wickets out of nothing.

Sam Curran’s presence in the squad provides an apt cover for Dwayne Bravo and Shane Watson, both of whom are vulnerable to injuries. Veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla and young spinner R Sai Kishore bolster the spin department that already involves notable names in Ravindra Jadeja, Imran Tahir, Harbhajan Singh, and Mitchell Santner.

Josh Hazlewood – INR 2 crores
Sam Curran – INR 5.50 crores
Piyush Chawla – INR 6.75 crores
R Sai Kishore – INR 20 lakh

Rajasthan Royals ended up releasing several players ahead of the auction. In the ongoing proceedings, they walked in with a purse of INR 28.90 crores. The franchise has been reasonably active in the bidding but ended up losing the war on some essential or star players. More than foreign players, they have roped in a lot of domestic recruits so far; however, we might be in for a surprise.

To be honest, their picks haven’t been impressive. One of the many shocking picks was Andrew Tye. The seamer from Australia was understood to have suffered a back injury and is also likely to miss the entire season of the Big Bash League. The selections of Tom Curran and David Miller also raises eyebrows both of who have remained inconsistent in IPL over the years. The only sensational signing that has come in their armoury is Yashasvi Jaiswal, who lit the Vijay Hazare Trophy with his double-hundred. Pairing him at the top of the order with Jos Buttler would be a masterstroke.

Below are the players they have purchased so far:

Robin Uthappa – INR 3 crores
David Miller – INR 75 lakh
Kartik Tyagi – INR 1.30 crores
Akash Singh – INR 20 lakh
Anuj Rawat – INR 80 lakh
