India chief coach Ravi Shastri said that the World Cup exit was a bitter pill to swallow and at the same time, he had heaped praise on Virat Kohli and Co’s consistency since the painful defeat at the hand of New Zealand. India were one of the favourites to clinch the 2019 World Cup tournament till a 15-minute stint from the New Zealand fast bowlers in Manchester changed the fate and everything didn’t go well for Men in Blue in the semi-final stages of the marquee event.

However, the overall performance of the Indian national cricket team has improved now. After successfully completing one more series whitewash against Bangladesh at home, Ravi Shastri revealed what made him believe that this current team could be the world’s greatest side. India also became the first team ever to complete 4 successive innings wins in the Test circuit.

“For me, the intensity shown by this team is fabulous. The way they have bounced back after those 15 minutes in Manchester. That was a bitter pill to swallow and hurt one and all. But then, the ferocity and intensity they have shown after that in the last three months is unbelievable. This is remarkable and that is why I say if you look back 5-6 years, this will have to be one of the most consistent Indian teams ever across all formats,” he said.

Speaking about MS Dhoni’s future, Ravi Shastri said that it all depends on when Dhoni starts playing and how he approaches during the Indian Premier League.

“It all depends on when he starts playing and how he is playing during the IPL. What are the other people doing with the wicket-keeping gloves or what is the form of those players as opposed to Dhoni’s form. The IPL becomes a massive tournament because that could be the last tournament after which more or less your 15 is decided,” he added.
