The Next Bar for James Anderson is 600 Test Wickets - Glenn McGrath

England pacer, James Anderson rattled Mohammed Shami’s stumps at The Oval to go past Glenn McGrath’s tally of 563 Test wickets on Tuesday.
It helped the hosts register a 4-1 series win over the Indians. McGrath, one of the most disciplined fast bowler of his times, backed James Anderson to go the distance.
The 36-year-old Anderson is currently the most successful pacer in the history of Test cricket. Only three spinners are ahead of him in the all-time list of bowlers with most wickets in Tests – Anil Kumble (619), Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800).
However, McGrath is rooting for James Andrson to go past the 600-wicket mark.
“Just to see Jimmy now, he looks fit and keen and running around, it depends on what he wants to do. He has gone past me, and I think the next bar is 600 Test wickets,” McGrath told BBC.
Anderson goes past ‘Pigeon.’
“If he can get to 600 Test wickets, that’s an incredible effort, and if he is still got that drive, that passion to get yourself up, to put the hard work in off the field to carry you through on the field… if he has still got that desire, then he can play as long as he wants,” he added.
Glenn McGrath called time on his career after bagging 563 wickets from 124 Tests. He last represented the Baggy green in 2007 against England. Interestingly, his last Test wicket was none other than Anderson. The former Aussie ace pacer feels James Anderson has it in him to bag the remaining 36 wickets.
“I think he’s still got a little bit left in the tank yet,” McGrath said. “I’d like to see Jimmy go and get 600 and then whether he wants to try and knock off one of these dodgy spinners that are still at the top of the tree. I think Kumble is about 619. That’s within range.”
