Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajiv Shukla on Friday said ex-India skipper MS Dhoni has a lot of cricketing career left in him. He also stated that only MS Dhoni can decide when to hang up his boots. There is confusion all around over the future of MS Dhoni in international cricket.

The World Cup-winner has not played for India since the end of the World Cup in July and is unlikely to play for the national team any time soon. A number of former players including Kapil Dev have expressed their doubts over MS Dhoni’s return to international cricket.

India head coach Ravi Shastri hinted that MS Dhoni is unlikely to return to the ODI side. Shastri, however, claimed that Dhoni could return to the T20I side and could be in contention for the T20 World Cup if he does well in the upcoming season of the IPL.

Only time will tell how MS Dhoni’s future with Team India pans out but for the time being, one thing is clear that he is unlikely to earn a recall any time soon. Rajiv Shukla, however, believes that MS Dhoni can still offer a lot to the game. He also said that the BCCI has a policy in place that allows a player to decide when to call it a day.

“Dhoni is a great cricketer and there is a lot more cricket left in him. But, he has to decide when he should take retirement,” Shukla told reporters here.

“The BCCI has a policy in place that a cricketer has to take a call on when to take retirement,” he added.

Meanwhile, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman will finally return to action next month when he leads Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
