Mumbai Indians have stormed into the final of IPL 2020 with a comprehensive 57-run win over Delhi Capitals in the first Qualifier at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Thursday.

Asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians piled up 200 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs despite their captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Kieron Pollard failing to open their accounts. The in-form duo of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav once again delivered.

Kishan top-scored for the defending champions, scoring an unbeaten 55 while Suryakumar scored 51. Hardik Pandya provided the finishing touch by slamming an unbeaten 37 off just 14 balls with the help of five sixes. For Delhi, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for 29.

In reply, Delhi Capitals could only manage 143 for 8. They started disastrously and lost their top three without even a single run before being reduced to 41 for 5. At one stage, it looked like they would not be able to touch even the 100-run mark but Marcus Stoinis’ 65 runs knock and Axar Patel’s 42 helped them finish on a respectable score.

Rohit Sharma’s reaction:

Speaking after the game, Rohit Sharma hailed his team’s performance as the best of the season so far. He was all praises for the way de Kock and Suryakumar steadied the ship after his early dismissal. The captain also praised in-form Ishan Kishan for his consistent performances this season.

“I guess this is the best performance. The way de Kock and SKY took the momentum after I got out early was good to see. Perfect result for us. We never had a target in mind. We are a different team and we play differently. We just wanted to have a good powerplay and then take it from there. We knew we have the power to accelerate at the end,” said Rohit Sharma.

“Ishan has been in just great form, so we just wanted him to be really positive after the second time-out. We told that to Krunal as well, just bat positively and put the bowlers under pressure. With such a versatile squad, we can change the batting and bowling order,” he added.
