Team India have started the ICC World Test Championship on a strong note. The Virat Kohli-led side, on Sunday, thrashed West Indies by 318 runs to go one-nil up in the two-match series. It was a dominating performance from the world number one side. Barring the early collapse in the first innings, nothing much went wrong for Team India.

Inspired by Ishant Sharma’s five-wicket haul in the first innings, India made light work of West Indies’ batting by bowling them out for just 222. India’s top three failed to get going in the second innings too but the middle-order stood strong. Ajinkya Rahane, who had scored 81 in the first innings, led the fightback with an impressive ton.

He was well supported by skipper Virat Kohli (51) and Hanuma Vihari (93) as India declares at 347 for 7 to set West Indies an improbable target of 419. West Indies then flopped miserably with the bat and were all out for just 100.

Jasprit Bumrah was simply unplayable for the West Indies players as he finished with sensational figures of 5 for just 7 runs from 8 overs. Bumrah rattled through the top order, attacking the stumps relentlessly in a devastating spell. He had his first breakthrough when he had opener Kraigg Brathwaite caught behind for one in his first over. Just minutes later, West Indies were five down for just 15. Bumrah received good support from his senior teammate Ishant Sharma who finished with 3 for 31.

West Indies were reeling at 50 for 9 before the last wicket stand of 50 between Miguel Cummins and Kemar Roach gave some respectability to the total.  Roach slogged three sixes in one over off spinner Ravindra Jadeja and top-scored for West Indies with 38.

Well, the win saw India bag 60 points. But quite a number of fans are confused as to why India got 60 points while England got only 24 even though they beat Australia too on Sunday. Well, the reason for the same is the format. Each series will have a maximum of 120 points and the points will be divided equally among the number of matches.
