Thoudam Akshay Kumar Makes Domestic Debut at 45

They say, “Age is just a number”. In fact, if a player has got the will to go for his passion, there is always a way. Thoudam Akshay Kumar made his domestic cricket debut at the age of 45 years. The cricketer played for his state team Manipur in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. In fact, Akshay started playing cricket in early 2000. Back then, Manipur was just an Associate member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The player went on to play four games for Manipur in the ongoing tourney. However, he was not able to turn heads with his performances. Nevertheless, he was able to fulfil his dream of representing his team at the domestic level.

Age is just a number.

The cricketer said that he starts his day with a jogging session. Akshay also said that he plays table tennis. In fact, he has played table tennis at the state level. He makes time for cricket in the evening.

“I start with jogging in the morning, then I play table tennis and cricket in the evening. I have been a state-level table tennis player also. I play that for my health,” he told Sportstar.

Meanwhile, Manipur has had a history of producing football players. We have also seen boxers coming out from the state. Thus, it is good to see that cricket is also gaining popularity in the region.

“That’s why people outside call us the powerhouse of sports. We have sportspersons representing India in football, boxing and now, cricket,” he added.

Thoudam Akshay Kumar said he is working hard on his fitness to stay in contention. In fact, he has spent some time with former Indian opener and current coach of Manipur, Shiv Sundar Das, which has helped him.

“I don’t know whether I will make it to every game but I like what I have been seeing. It is exciting. I am working hard on my fitness to remain in contention,” he said.

It must have been an emotional moment for Thoudam Akshay Kumar to make his debut for Manipur. He would like to come up with good performances.
