The skipper of the Australian Test team, Tim Paine recently shared a video on Twitter, urging fans to stand strong in the tough times. All cricketing activities have been stopped in Australia owing to fears regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The Coronavirus pandemic has gripped the world whole and perhaps its worse effects are being felt by the sporting community.

Much like all other countries, Australia too saw fit to suspending all cricket-related activities and matches amid the amid of this deadly virus that has affected more than 1.5 million people worldwide.

Paine, in his video, addressed the same issue, whilst urging people to take care and stand strong.

Australian skipper Tim Paine addresses fans on Twitter:

Cricket Australia (CA) shared the video on their official Twitter handle.

“In these testing times, we thank you for your patience and support. Here’s a message from your men’s skipper on behalf of Australian Cricket,” read the caption.

Paine, in the 1.31-minute clip, can be seen talking about the cancellation of all domestic cricketing activities, matches of the Australian men’s and Women’s team have been suspended as well.

But the 35-year-old said that these calls were made thinking about the best interests of the whole community.

“As hard as it is for all cricketers at the moment, I think it is time we take a break. I know it’s even harder this time of year when you’ve got finals and trophies are on the line and it’s all there to be won but this is bigger than us, bigger than the game of cricket but it’s something that needs to be taken very seriously,” said Paine in the video.

He further added, “Look, I hope that we’re all back playing the game we love and going about our lives the way we want to as soon as possible but in the meantime, please take care of yourself, take care of others and let’s ride this out together. All the best!” 

Australia played hosts to New Zealand for a three-match ODI series lately, the first of which was won by the Aussies.

The match was played behind closed doors, but the series ultimately had to be suspended to avoid the spread of coronavirus.
