Tim Paine, Australian Test captain, produced a moment of pure genius and remarkable awareness during Tasmania’s ongoing Sheffield Shield fixture against New South Wales on Tuesday.

The incident took place during the 98th over of New South Wales second innings when opener Nick Larkin, after being completely squared by a peach of a delivery by fast bowler Gabe Bell, forgot to land the heal of his backfoot back in the crease.

Paine, in what was a great example of game-awareness, threw the ball at the stumps to effect a brilliant run-out.

Paine’s brilliant work put an end to Nick Larkin’s innings but that was not before he had put New South Wales in a commanding position courtesy his brilliant 292-ball 161- an innings which included 22 boundaries.

Larik was one of the three centurions in New South Wales second innings, with Moises Henriques (113) and Sean Abbott (102*) being the other two.

It could have easily been four hundred in an innings for NSW, had their skipper Peter Neville not declare the innings at the score of 6-522, leaving Mitchell Starc stranded on a 132-ball 86.

Earlier, New South Wales were knocked for a poultry 64 in their first innings, and in reply, Tasmania posted 239 all-out.

NSW has, however, asserted themselves in a very strong position thanks to a brilliant second innings performance with the bat. Having set Tasmania 346 to win, NSW claimed both the openers in Charlie Wakim and Jordan Silk at the close of play.
