England fast bowler Toby Roland-Jones is ruled out for the remainder of the domestic 2018 County season after suffering a stress fracture in his back.
The 30-year old Roland-Jones had suffered a recurrence of a back injury, that ruled him out of Ashes 2017-18 in December.Exciting paceman felt soreness in his back during the game at Derbyshire, which did not help his cause. He did not bowl during the second-half of the game and will now have to undergo an extensive rehabilitation.

Soon after the game, Roland-Jones underwent scans. They revealed that he once again suffered another stress fracture to his lower back. His club Middlesex had extended their support to the fast bowler.

“Everybody at the club is devastated for Toby and our immediate thoughts are with him, and that he makes a full recovery. I know how frustrating it can be to miss a summer of cricket through injury, having been through this myself on two occasions. The ray of light is that you do recover and you do come back stronger and even more determined,” Angus Fraser, Middlesex Cricket’s Managing Director of Cricket, said.

“Toby’s absence is obviously a setback for Middlesex and he will be missed for more than just his bowling. He is a fantastic presence in the dressing room and has been one of the finest bowlers in the country in the past six or seven years,” Fraser added.
“Yet one player’s misfortune is another player’s opportunity and we have a number of young, hungry bowlers on our staff. They now have an opportunity to show their potential and to fill the hole created by Toby’s misfortune. I have every confidence they are up to this challenge,” he maintained.

On his debut, the lanky pacer took five for 57 in the first innings and finished the game with eight for 84 in an impressive spell of pace bowling.

England team clearly felt Jones’ absence for Ashes. He with Anderson and Broad would have helped England inch closer to Australia. But then injury did not let that happen.

However, with his latest set back, Toby Roland-Jones will need to come back stronger.

The place in the English setup is always up for grabs. But the pacer will first need to concentrate to become 100% fit once again.
