New Zealand Cricket Team yet again suffered a significant blow after Tom Latham sustaining an injury to his Pinky finger. As a result, the southpaw is likely to miss the ODI series against the Indian National Cricket Team at home. However, he might recover before the Test matches get underway. He fractured his finger during the Third Test match against Australia in Sydney.

It wasn’t the best of the series for the Black Caps. They lost the key players like Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry and the latest Tom Latham, who all returned home with injuries. With the crucial India series in line, all the players would like to get back to their fitness as quickly as possible.

As the team prepared to return to New Zealand on Wednesday after being thrashed 3-0 by Australia, head coach Stead said Latham would be sidelined for approximately four weeks.  Any further delay could put him in doubt for the first Test against India next month.

Lockie Ferguson has returned to running – Tom Latham

Tom Latham was New Zealand’s stand-in captain for the third Test. He went out to bat in the second innings despite the injury and faced 15 deliveries before he was dismissed for one run. Regular skipper Kane Williamson, who missed the third Test along with Henry Nicholls and Mitchell Santner because of illness, was said to be slowly returning to full health.

The injured Trent Boult (hand), Matt Henry (thumb) and Lockie Ferguson (calf-strain) were also expected to be fit again for the India Tests but with a question mark over their participation in the preceding T20 series and One-Day internationals.

“Lockie Ferguson has returned to running and performing bowling drills. He’ll continue to progress over the next couple of weeks with the potential to return to domestic cricket early next month. Kane Williamson, Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner are regaining their health after being struck down with Influenza A and will continue be monitored as they slowly rebuild their strength and fitness,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead said.
