Top 10 Batsman With Most Sixes In Test Cricket; Hitting a six is always a special feeling for the batsman, as it is the highest-scoring shot in the game of cricket. However, of late, after the evolution of the game, the batsmen are finding it easy to whack the ball out of the park with ease. But, how about scoring a six in the longer version of the game?

Test matches- the purest form of the game, are seemingly known for batting slowly for long periods of time, piling on runs while taking minimal risks. The batsmen are cautious in their approach and unlike T20s or ODIs, the sight of ball clearing the boundary rope is pretty less in red-ball cricket. But, there have been batsmen in Test history who broke the conservative approach and were confident enough to use the long handle.

10. Matthew Hayden – 82 Sixes

The first person to make into the chart is the swashbuckling batsman Matthew Hayden. Only a few batsmen redefined the art of opening in test cricket. Matthew Hayden was one of them. The Australian southpaw never failed to take on the bowlers.

Hayden struck 82 sixes in 184 Test innings. Hayden is tenth on the list of batsmen with most sixes in Test cricket. He scored 8,625 runs at an average of 50.73. Moreover, riding on his performance, Hayden garnered 30 centuries and 29 fifties during his 15-year Test stint.

9. Andrew Flintoff – 82 Sixes

Andrew Flintoff was a right-handed English batsman who was better known for his fast bowling. However, at times, he has been a fantastic player with the bat as well. In 79 Test matches, prominent figure Flintoff smashed 82 sixes to become ninth overall batsmen with most sixes in Test cricket. Ninth on the table of batsmen with most sixes in the Test Cricket, Flintoff proved himself at the big stage.

Apart from his bowling, Flintoff also scored 3,845 runs at an average of 31.77. He settled with five tons and 26 fifties to his name. His best performance was 7 sixes in his 191 ball 167 against West Indies in Birmingham in 2004. Flintoff hits at least a six in every test match he played.

8. Vivian Richards – 84 Sixes

Here comes the top-class batsman into the chart. It is Vivian Richards, who found a place at number 8. When the trend was to bat long by keeping the ball grounded, the man used to hit it way over fielders’ head and out of the parks.

In his era, Richards was considered to be the most destructive batsman ever produced. There were many who played better than him but no one dared to take on the bowling as he did. He averaged a 50.24 at an unbelievable strike rate of 86.07, scoring 8540 runs in 121 test matches.  And not to forget the fact that all those runs were scored without proper gear.

7. Chris Cairns – 87 Sixes

The all-rounder from New Zealand makes into the chart. One of the finest players of the game as well. Although his career was cut short by frequent injuries, the cricketer made quite an impact on the game of cricket and the history of New Zealand.

Chris Cairns loved to take on the opposition bowlers and many-a-times rescued New Zealand out of struggle single-handedly. One can easily understand the impact of Cairns, as he went on to hit 87 sixes from the 62 tests he played.

6. Brian Lara – 88 Sixes

The legendary cricketer Brian Lara makes into the chart. The flamboyant batsman has always been a class apart and tore the opposition bowling attack with his blistering strikes. Having an ability to extend his arms most stylishly, Brian Lara has been the one who made bowlers toil hard for the wicket.

Arguably the greatest left-handed batsman ever, the West Indian goes down in the books as the only man in history to score a 400* in an international inning. Amassing a giant 11953 runs in his 17-year test career at an average of 52.89 at a strike rate of 60.51. Not to forget his 34 centuries and 9 double-tons. The leftie hit 88 sixes to find the sixth place.

5. Virender Sehwag – 91 Sixes

Every cricketing fanatic, especially from India, would have expected his name on the list. The former Indian opener was very aggressive in his approach. One of the most destructive batsmen of the 21st century, he is also the record holder of 2 Test triple centuries.

His 8586 runs at a strike rate of 82.23 in the era fierce fast bowling with the likes of Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee, Dale Steyn speaks for man’s ability and performance together. In his 12-year test career, he hit the ball over the ropes 91 times to stand at number 5 on this list.

4. Jacques Kallis – 97 Sixes

One of the best in the game of cricket, who easily finds a place in Dream 11 of every individual across the formats. Jacques Kallis was a precious asset to the South African team. Consistent with both bat and ball in limited-overs as well as Tests, Kallis is an inspiration to many budding all-rounders.

13,289 Test runs at an average of 55.37 with 45 centuries and 292 Test wickets in 166 games in 18 years long illustrious Test career, gives an adequate glimpse of the powerhouse that Kallis was.

3. Chris Gayle – 98 sixes

Well, I strongly believe that no one surprised to see his name. In fact, one of the few names, whose name can be found on the Sixes list across the world in any format of the game in International or in local or in franchise cricket. Such has been his dominance in hitting the ball out of the park.

Gayle was never much interested in running between the wicket for runs. He found it easier to swing the ball overheads of the fielders and collect boundaries. He is the only active cricketer to feature in this list. He ranks 3rd in the all-time list with 98 sixes to his name.

2. Adam Gilchrist – 100 Sixes

Umm…100 Sixes in a Test Cricket shows his aggressiveness with the bat. However, numbers do lie at times. Though the names display him as an aggressive batsman, actually, he is a class apart. He got that silky touch and lift them out of the park with flamboyance. He ended up at second on the chart with 100 sixes.

The skilful left-hander is known for his timely masterclass and jawdropping wicketkeeping. Gilchrist was one of the most critical parts of the dominant Aussie squad in the 2000s. During his illustrious 12-year international career, Gilchrist represented Australia in 96 Test matches and scored 5,570 runs, which included 17 centuries and 26 half-centuries at a magnificent average of 47.60.

Surprised? I firmly believe not…!!! One of the most loved cricketers across the world, the former New Zealand skipper is one of the greatest batsmen New Zealand has ever produced. He is the only New Zealand batsman to have scored a triple century in Tests and is the fastest to score a Test century in terms of ball faced.

Although his batting style and midset did not suit the longest format, he could manage a plethora of boundaries in his 101 test matches. Hitting 107 sixes in 176 innings for the Black Caps, Brendon McCullum currently stands on top of the chart.
