The batsmen have had a fine tournament. The World-class batters have delivered the goods in the competition and we have seen some spectacular renditions. In fact, there have been some performances by the batsmen, which has helped their team in getting over the line. Furthermore, there are some one-man shows in some of the matches.

The big players have stood up at the big stage and it has been a treat for the spectators. The top players have come out blazing in the competition. We take a look at the top 10 run-getters of the tournament.

Here are the top 10 run-getters of the tournament.

10. Jason Roy – 443 runs.

The England opener has done a fine job for his team. Roy who is known for his attacking display has scored 443 runs in the six innings at an average of 63.29 and a stunning strike rate of 115.36. The right-hander has provided good starts to his team as he was able to hit the ground running. In fact, Roy was ruled out in between in the league stage matches due to a hamstring injury. Thus, his absence was clearly palpable when he was out of the playing XI.

The England opening batsman had scored a fine knock of 85 runs off just 65 balls in the big semifinal against Australia. The right-hander scored four fifties.

It was a surprise that Virat Kohli was not able to convert his fifties into substantial scores. Kohli scored five consecutive half-centuries which are also a record in the World Cup. In fact, Kohli generally came out to bat after Rohit Sharma provided a good start to the team. Thus, Kohli didn’t have a lot of balls to face.

The Indian captain, who is currently the best batsman of the World, scored 443 runs in the nine matches at 55.38. The right-hander scored his runs at a strike rate of 94.06. However, Kohli failed to deliver when it mattered the most in the semifinal against New Zealand. Kohli could score only one run and thus it was a disappointing end for him.

8. Babar Azam – 474 runs.

The Pakistan talisman batsman Babar Azam became the country’s leading run-getter in a single edition after surpassing the record of Javed Miandad. Azam scored 474 runs in the eight innings at an average of 67.71 and strike rate of 87.78. The linchpin batsman scored three fifties and one century.

Azam was Pakistan’s best batsman of the tournament and he scored a fine hundred in the must-win match against New Zealand. The right-hander is a treat to the eyes and he is the future of Pakistan cricket.

7. Jonny Bairstow – 532 runs.

The England opener gave good starts to the team with Jason Roy. Bairstow was able to hit the ground running and scored his runs throughout the tournament. The right-hander scored two consecutive centuries against India and New Zealand in the league stage.

These two matches were must-win and Bairstow was able to bring his best to the table. Bairstow scored 532 runs in the 10 innings at an average of 49.60. The right-hander scored his runs at a strike rate of 92.84.

6. Aaron Finch – 507 runs.

Australia’s skipper Aaron Finch was the best captain of the World Cup. He was able to deliver the goods with the bat too. Finch scored 507 runs in the 10 innings at an average of 50.70. Furthermore, the right-hander scored his runs at a fine strike rate of 102.01. Finch wasn’t in the best of forms in the last one year. However, he was able to peak his game before the World Cup in the bilateral series against Pakistan. Finch scored three half-centuries and two centuries in the World Cup.

The right-hander was able to add good partnerships with David Warner for the opening stand to lay down the foundation of a big score for Australia.

5. Joe Root – 556 runs.

The England Test captain was at his best in the tournament. Root was the root of England’s batting line-up as he scored runs consistently for the hosts. The right-hander scored 556 runs in the 10 innings at an average of 61.78 and strike of 89.53. The talisman batsman scored three fifties and two centuries in the World Cup.

Root was able to hold one end for the England team and helped his partner to play their natural game. Hence, Root did a fine job for the Eoin-Morgan-led side.

4. Kane Williamson – 578 runs.

Kane Williamson was the fulcrum of the New Zealand’s batting order. Williamson amassed 578 runs in the nine innings at an average of 82.57and strike rate of 74.97. The stylish batsman scored two centuries and as many fifties in the World Cup. Williamson had scored a fine knock of a century against West Indies to help his team get over the line.

In fact, Williamson played an anchor’s role with great success for the Kiwis. The right-hander also played a crucial knock of 67 in the semifinal match against India which helped his team win by 18 runs.

3. Shakib Al Hasan – 606 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan had a dream tournament with both the bat as well as the ball. The southpaw batsman scored 606 runs in the eight innings at an average of 86.67 and strike rate of 96.04. The left-hander scored five fifties and two hundred in the tournament. Hasan was able to deliver the goods in all but every match.

On the other hand, Bangladesh vice-captain delivered the goods with the ball as he scalped 11 wickets in the tournament. The left-hander was Bangladesh’s best player in the tournament by a distance.

David Warner made a roaring comeback into International cricket after serving his ball-tampering ban. Warner had scored 692 runs in the IPL and continued the same form in the World Cup. The southpaw batsman was at his best and he was able to hit the straps in the big event.

Warner scored 647 runs at an average of 71.89 and strike rate of 89.36. The left-hander scored three fifties and as many centuries in the World Cup. The southpaw batsman was at his best but could not deliver in the semifinal against England.

India’s vice-captain was batting in a different zone in the World Cup. Rohit Sharma is the leading run-getter of the tournament as he accumulated 648 runs in the nine innings. The flamboyant batsman scored five centuries in the single edition of the World Cup, which is the most by any batsman. Rohit Sharma scored his runs at an average of 81 and strike rate of 98.33.

The right-hander provided great starts to the team to lay down the foundation of a big score. The talisman was at his best but could not get going in the all-important semifinal as he was dismissed by a beautiful ball from Matt Henry.
