One of the most explosive all-rounders of the modern era, Ben Stokes finds a place in the chart with 821 runs to his name. He had a fantastic 2019 for England across the formats with his all-round skills. The stylish southpaw played sensational knock in the World Cup final and then followed it up with incredible innings in Ashes Trophy to pull out a victory out of nowhere for England.

His unbeaten 135* at Headingly to win it for England was the knock, which not only inspired his teammates but also proved that Test Cricket is very much alive in the current generation. Apart from that knock, Ben Stokes added one more century with four fifties to finish the year with 821 runs to his name.

All those runs came at an average of 45.68. Another interesting fact is that Ben Stokes scored as many as 17 sixes in this year, which is the highest in this chart. Overall, he is placed third for most sixes in Test cricket in 2019, as Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal finished with 20 and 19 sixes respectively. Besides that, Ben Stokes also picked 22 wickets.

One of the surprise names in the list is Rory Burns of England. The stylish southpaw, who replaced the retired-Alastair Cook, has made the opening position in Test format as his own. The patient-Rory Burns was one of the few England players, who have been consistent during this year.

Burns has the resistance of a classic opener. He was one of the few batsmen, who persisted in the crease facing the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood during the Ashes Trophy and then played brilliant innings of 84 against the Kiwis in New Zealand.

Thus, he outsmarted Mayank Agarwal and Ben Stokes to find a fourth place in the Top 5 Highest Run-Scorer’s chart of 2019. Burns scored 824 runs at an average of 35.82 in 23 innings. He also registered a couple of centuries and five fifties to his name.

One of the few batsmen, who received massive applause from the cricket experts across the world is Joe Root. Though he placed third in this chart, the right-handed batsman fared pretty poorly in this year as per the standards he set in his career so far. Not only as the batsman but also Joe Root had a poor season as the captain of the Test team.

They went down 2-1 in the series against West Indies at the start of the year and almost beaten by Ireland in the 4-day Test match. Later, they failed to regain the Ashes at home in a 2-2 drawn series, which followed by 1-0 loss in the hands of New Zealand. Then they ended 2019 with a loss in Boxing Day Test against South Africa.

Getting into the details of Joe Root’s profile in 2019, he scored 851 runs in this year to find a third place in the chart. He scored two centuries and four fifties to knock runs at an average of 37.00. Besides that, he registered three ducks as well.

What a year it has been for Marnus Labuschagne?  He finished the calendar year as the highest run-scorer in Tests. The turnaround of fortunes for Labuschange began in August after he replaced Steve Smith as a concussion substitute during the second Ashes Test.

During the Lord’s Test, Labuschagne etched his name in the record books by becoming the first ‘concussion substitute’ in Test history. He replaced Steve Smith, who was ruled out of the remainder of the Test match after a short ball from Jofra Archer struck him on the neck. Marnus wasted no time in impressing everyone and stroked a brave fifty to help Australia draw the match.

Having scored 353 runs against England in the Ashes, Labuschagne cemented his place in the playing eleven. Apart from those runs, he knocked it brilliantly against Pakistan and New Zealand to finish the year as the leading run-scorer of the year 2019. In total, he scored 1104 in 11 innings at an average of 64.94. He scored three centuries and seven fifties, with the highest score of 185.
