Winning in overseas is always a pleasant sight for any of the Asian teams. Meanwhile, if a win comes against England, the occasion becomes more delightful. Meanwhile, India did it on many times to celebrate those magical moments regarding five biggest Test wins.

We figured out the top five most significant victories for India regarding runs against England in Tests.

5. BS Chandrasekhar scrips 140-run victory in 1977 at Bangalore:

It was a game best remembered for BS Chandrasekhar’s finest performances. His incredible bowling display helped India to outclass the giants of the game, England during those days.

Initially, it was Syed Kirmani and Mohinder Amarnath who stroked fine fifties to push India to a total of 253 runs on the board.

In reply to the tally, England batsmen have no clue for Chandrasekhar’s brilliance with the ball. He bagged as many as six wickets while leaving England 58 runs behind.

This time it was Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Vishwanath, who helped India to score 259 on the board thus asking over 300 runs to chase for England.

In reply to the chase, it was again Chandrasekhar, who troubled the Englishmen. But, Bishan Singh Bedi weaved magic to finish with a six-wicket haul. It was a memorable Test win for India in England that saw excellent performances from Indian bowlers.

4. India’s all-round show helped India win by 187 runs at Kolkata in 1962:

The Kolkata’s game between India and the visitors England has seen one of India’s best performances in Test cricket. The Contractor led the side to perfection by using all the resources in the team.

It was MAK Pataudi and Borde, who scored scintillating fifties to hand India an impressive tally of 380 runs on the board.

In reply to India’s first innings, apart from skipper Dexter and the opener, Richardson, none of them tried to stand at the crease thus bundling out for 212.

With a considerable lead, India started the things positively and added 252 runs to it with Borde scoring fifty again. Chasing 420 runs on the board, England never looking like chasing the tally thus handing India a substantial 187-run victory.

India went on to seal the series. It was one of the memorable series victories for India as it came against the big team during those times. All in all, that was a complete performance for the Indian team.

3. Virat Kohli’s majesty helped to script 203-run victory at Trent Bridge in 2018:

Despite coming into Trent Bridge on the back of a shameful performance at Lord’s, visitors outclassed England by 203 runs in the third Test match and made it 1-2 in the five-match Test series.

The all-around show by Hardik Pandya and the solid performances by Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah handed No. 1 Test team a memorable victory in Nottingham.

The change in the opening slot, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan pleasantly started the things by registering 60 runs for the first wicket.

India skipper, Kohli and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane took back the attack to England. They both smashed the ball beautifully to register an excellent 159-run partnership between them.

The day four has seen the pure form of Test cricket. Ishant Sharma’s two wickets and Bumrah, Shami’s one wicket each left England reeling on 62 for four.

However, then came the majestic knock by Jos Buttler. However, Bumrah rattled England with the second new ball to give a solid victory for India.

However, the win at Trent Bridge made the equation 2-1 in favour of England. With two games still left in the series (without any result yet), all the three outcomes are open wide. Meanwhile, the Trent Bridge Test win will give massive confidence to the Indian team.

It has been one of the biggest Test wins for India against England.

2. Virat Kohli and spinners smashed England by 246 runs in 2016 at Vishakapatnam:

It was once again Virat Kohli, who smashed a big ton for India. He and Cheteshwar Pujara were top-class in their masterful tallies that dented England badly. They both stitched 226-run partnership to crush England under the sweltering sun.

The Indian skipper scored 167 runs while Pujara scored 119 to their names. However, none of the Indian batsmen gave the required firepower which led them to score 455 on the board.

In reply to their innings, England found it tough to face Indian spinners. Especially, Ravichandran Ashwin who picked up a fifer. Ben Stokes and Joe Root crossed the fifties to push England 255 runs.

Taking 200 runs lead, India scored a swift 204 to give a 459-run target for England. While chasing the tally, they were off the track which ended up giving a massive 246-run victory for India.

1. Dilip Vengsarkar and bowlers scripted a massive 279-run win at Leeds in 1986:

Touring to England and winning a game there has always been an enormous achievement. Meanwhile, visitors did magic when they visited England in 1986. The heroics by Dilip Vengsarkar on a real bowling pitch scripted one of the memorable victories for his team.

In the first innings of the game, it was Dilip Vengsarkar’s solitary fifty and the collective 30’s from the other batsmen helped India score 272 on the board. In reply, Roger Binny bowled splendidly to crush England to 102 runs.

Taking the 170-run lead, it was again Vengsarkar who smashed a brilliant hundred to push national to 237 runs on the board. Chasing 407 runs, England were bowled out to 128 runs.

Maninder Singh was the pick of bowlers with four wickets while Roger Binny and Kapil Dev picked a couple each. All in all, it was the highest margin victory for India regarding runs and something which Vengsarkar cherishes for the lifetime.
