Due to the Indian general elections, the IPL 2009 was completely shifted to South Africa. All the eight teams of the first edition participated in the IPL 2009. At the end of the second IPL season, Deccan Chargers won the trophy.
At the end of the 59 matches in that IPL edition, the total number of sixes in that tournament was 457. A total of 74 different batsmen hit sixes in that tournament. The IPL 2009 winning captain, Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist (Deccan Chargers) won the Maximum Sixes Award, who finished that season with 29 sixes.
