Australia retained the Ashes urn after beating England by 185 runs in the fourth Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Steve Smith once again made the difference between the two sides scoring a double century and backing it up with a fifty. Soon after the match, England skipper Joe Root started to trend on Twitter with fans calling for his sacking.
Meanwhile, England’s poor run continued throughout the series as they failed to regain the urn in their country for the first time since 2001. It has been the old story as their batters failed to rise up to the occasions and put runs on the board. Moreover, the bowlers also didn’t have an answer to Steve Smith’s brilliance.
England managed to post 301 runs in reply to Australia’s 497 for eight before declaring their first innings. The visitors capitalised on the lead and added another 186 runs to post a daunting task ahead of the home side.
Chasing 382 runs, England succumbed to pressure as this has been the case from the start of the series. They managed to just post 197 runs as Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood took the game away from the hosts.
Following their second drubbing in the series, the England fans came down hard on their skipper Joe Root. They also called for sacking Root from the post as he has been unsuccessful with the Test team since taking over in 2017.
Under Joe Root, England have played 32 Tests so far in which they have won 16 and lost 13 Tests. They have sustained defeats against South Africa and West Indies at home. While Root himself has insisted to carry on with the job, it will be interesting to see what the new crop of support staffs decides.
Joe Root a captain is consuming Joe Root a batsman.
Average of 52+ and 40+ as non-captain and captain tells how much has he fallen after being captain.
Relive him as a captain and let him to score runs at no.four; what's his prime job.#Ashes19

Joe Root should resign as England captain. His leadership since he started has been somewhat vague and indecisive. He should concentrate on his batting and improve his half century conversion rate.

IMO,way forward for Eng #Ashes2019
Ben Stokes as captain
Joe Root back at 4
Joe Denly at 3
Don Sibley to open with Rory Burns
Bairstow to play as a specialist batsmen,so the best Wicket Keeper Ben Foakes is back in the team.#TheAshes2019

#Ashes19 Joe Root is a great player, but not a great captain. Leaked runs in all four tests. Best test sides control the match in the field and too many such sessions drifted way off course (need tighter spinner). Cummins/Hazlewood deserve victory. Batting a virtual one-man band.

Joe Root should quit as Captain. He lacks strategic and tactical acumen.
