Australia retained the Ashes urn after beating England by 185 runs in the fourth Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Steve Smith once again made the difference between the two sides scoring a double century and backing it up with a fifty. Soon after the match, England skipper Joe Root started to trend on Twitter with fans calling for his sacking.

Meanwhile, England’s poor run continued throughout the series as they failed to regain the urn in their country for the first time since 2001. It has been the old story as their batters failed to rise up to the occasions and put runs on the board. Moreover, the bowlers also didn’t have an answer to Steve Smith’s brilliance.

England managed to post 301 runs in reply to Australia’s 497 for eight before declaring their first innings. The visitors capitalised on the lead and added another 186 runs to post a daunting task ahead of the home side.

Chasing 382 runs, England succumbed to pressure as this has been the case from the start of the series. They managed to just post 197 runs as Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood took the game away from the hosts.

Following their second drubbing in the series, the England fans came down hard on their skipper Joe Root. They also called for sacking Root from the post as he has been unsuccessful with the Test team since taking over in 2017.
