Twitter Erupts After Mumbai Indians Thump Delhi Capitals By 9 Wickets
Updated - 31 Oct 2020, 07:34 PM
A clinical bowling performance by the Mumbai Indians [MI]-led by Jasprit Bumrah helped by pretty ordinary batting by the Delhi Capitals [DC] batsmen followed by a masterclass in sumptuous strokeplay by Ishan Kishan has helped the defending champions consign Delhi Capitals to their fourth consecutive defeat of IPL 2020.
Courtesy yet another crushing defeat, DC’s NRR has gone for a toss and while they still can qualify if they win their last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, their final fixture has now become a must-win game for the Shreyas Iyer-led unit.
Defending just 111, the Delhi Capitals needed early wickets in the powerplay but the duo of Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock ensured that it wasn’t the case as they played some cracking shots off Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje to take the score to 38 in the first six overs.
The onslaught continued after the powerplay as Ishan Kishan continued to flag the DC spin-bowling attack with his enterprising strokeplay. The duo brought up the 50-run-stand in just the 9th over as they motored along with ease.
Kishan smoked Dubey for another six in the 14th over to take the score past the 100-run-mark before he launched yet another six to seal the deal for his side.
Jasprit Bumrah’s 3-17 spearheaded Mumbai Indians charge against Delhi Capitals
Earlier, Prithvi Shaw’s horrendous form continued as he once again failed to make the most of the opportunity as he managed an 11-ball 10 before once again falling courtesy a mistimed pull-stroke.
Trent Boult went bang bang in his first spell as he backed up the dismissal of Shaw with that of Shikhar Dhawan, who was dismissed for a second-ball duck.
The duo of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant added just 35 runs in the next 7.2 overs before the pressure of upping the ante got the better of the latter.
Kieron Pollard brought back Jasprit Bumrah in the attack immediately and that opened a pandora box of wickets as the premium fast bowler bowled perfect Test match lengths to knock over Marcus Stoinis and Rishabh Pant in the same over to reduce DC to 5-62 in 11.4 overs.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Mumbai Indians’ 9-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals:

It is a very easy win for the @mipaltan side. @DelhiCapitals need to believe they are good enough to make it. They are. But it is a tough 48 hours for them to turn things around. Will show their mental strength.

Ishan Kishan has always been a good batsman. Of late He has started to be more unorthodox and cavalier. That has made him quite a handy T20 batsman. Adaptation and learning are important in every walk of life, more so in T20 cricket.

Inside out over covers for a six off Rabada — pure class from Ishan Kishan. Not a lot of batsmen can hit that kind of a shot v Rabada. What a fantastic fifty Kishan has scored. Top quality hitting. Will play for India in future, I feel

Ishan Kishan has smashed Rabada for a six through covers and he completed fifty – he is enjoying the opening spot.

If MI hunt this paltry target inside 15 overs, DC’s NRR will go below that of KXIP’s. Not a good time.

For the first 4 weeks of #IPL2020 , #DC looked the only team likely to challenge #MI for the title. In the last two weeks, they’ve gone rapidly and inexplicably downhill.

If Delhi lose this heavily – which they seemingly will – then they are *properly* in the mix for being leapfrogged on NRR. They have absolutely fallen apart. #IPL2020 #DCvMI

On their best days, MI plays like they have 20 fielders placed in the ground. 15-batsmen long batting line-up. 5 top quality bowlers. #IPL

If #MI chase this down inside 15 overs, the NRR of DC will fall below that of #KXIP
Which means if KXIP beat CSK tomorrow and DC lose to RCB on Monday, KXIP will finish ahead of DC in points table.#IPL2020

2019 : KXIP repeated 2018
2020 : DC had 7 wins from 9 matches and they lost 3 matches and can lose 4 in a row…
