A clinical bowling performance by the Mumbai Indians [MI]-led by Jasprit Bumrah helped by pretty ordinary batting by the Delhi Capitals [DC] batsmen followed by a masterclass in sumptuous strokeplay by Ishan Kishan has helped the defending champions consign Delhi Capitals to their fourth consecutive defeat of IPL 2020.

Courtesy yet another crushing defeat, DC’s NRR has gone for a toss and while they still can qualify if they win their last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, their final fixture has now become a must-win game for the Shreyas Iyer-led unit.

Defending just 111, the Delhi Capitals needed early wickets in the powerplay but the duo of Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock ensured that it wasn’t the case as they played some cracking shots off Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje to take the score to 38 in the first six overs.

The onslaught continued after the powerplay as Ishan Kishan continued to flag the DC spin-bowling attack with his enterprising strokeplay. The duo brought up the 50-run-stand in just the 9th over as they motored along with ease.

Nortje eventually got the first scalp with the dismissal of Quinton de Kock in his comeback spell as the latter chopped it on to his wickets. Kishan smashed Rabada for another sumptuous six over deep extra-cover in the next over before an inside-out shot over covers brought him a couple of runs for his half-century.

Kishan smoked Dubey for another six in the 14th over to take the score past the 100-run-mark before he launched yet another six to seal the deal for his side.

Jasprit Bumrah’s 3-17 spearheaded Mumbai Indians charge against Delhi Capitals

Earlier, Prithvi Shaw’s horrendous form continued as he once again failed to make the most of the opportunity as he managed an 11-ball 10 before once again falling courtesy a mistimed pull-stroke.

Trent Boult went bang bang in his first spell as he backed up the dismissal of Shaw with that of Shikhar Dhawan, who was dismissed for a second-ball duck.

The duo of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant added just 35 runs in the next 7.2 overs before the pressure of upping the ante got the better of the latter.

Iyer, after having managed a 29-ball 25, was undone by the flight of Rahul Chahar, only for Quinton de Kock to complete an easy stumping in the 11th over.

Kieron Pollard brought back Jasprit Bumrah in the attack immediately and that opened a pandora box of wickets as the premium fast bowler bowled perfect Test match lengths to knock over Marcus Stoinis and Rishabh Pant in the same over to reduce DC to 5-62 in 11.4 overs.

Bumrah [3-17] returned in the next over to trap Harshal Patel leg-before-wicket for his 23rd wicket of the season while Shimron Hetmyer and Ravichandran Ashwin fell in trying to go for the big strokes to Nathan Coulter-Nile and Trent Boult. Rabada smashed a six off Trent Boult in the penultimate over to ensure DC crossed the 100-run-mark, eventually finishing at 9-110.
