Twitter Goes Wild As Virat Kohli Brings His 27th Test Century

Two wickets down and Team India skipper Virat Kohli was once again upto the mark to bring his side on top. The hosts were for 43 for two with openers back in the hut but Kohli steered the innings alongside Cheteshwar Pujara adding 94 runs for the third wicket. Previously, India had knocked off Bangladesh for 106 runs in the first innings of the historic day-night Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Ishant Sharma was the wrecker-in-chief for India on day one scalping a five-wicket haul to put the visitors on the backfoot. In the process, he became the first Indian to claim a hat-trick in the day-night Test. Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami also made useful contributions picking three and two wickets respectively. Shami made the batters dance to his tunes and bowled venomous bouncers injuring two in the process. Bangladesh had to call for two concussion substitute; becoming the first-ever team to do so.

Batting looked difficult during the twilight period and India lost both their openers early. Mayank Agarwal (14) and Rohit Sharma (21) got the start but failed to carry on which saw Virat Kohli in the middle within 13th over. But the India skipper looked completely in the scheme of things right from the onset. He played those gorgeous looking drives forcing the bowlers also do nothing but applaud. In the process, he became the first Indian skipper to score 5000 Test runs.

Kohli soon marched towards the half-century mark; his 26th in Tests. But the cricketer was in no mood to respite as he carried on the same momentum on day two to reach his 27th hundred from the overnight score of 59. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane looked in complete control of the pink ball as they manoeuvre the ball with ease as India extended the lead.

Although Rahane got out after his individual fifty but it didn’t the talismanic run-scorer as he marched toward another outstanding century. Kohli took a cautious approach in the nineties but reached to 99 with a boundary and then reached the three-figure mark with a double. With India at 255 for four, Kohli will be keen to convert this to a double and extended the lead as far as possible.
