After two closely-fought games, the third and final T20I between India and West Indies failed to live up to the lofty expectations as the hosts won the game by 67 runs to clinch the series 2-1. Both the teams were in fine form coming into the finale but the Men in Blue proved just too good for the visitors today at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

West Indies’ decision to bowl first turned out to be a disaster as India made the most of a belter of a pitch. Riding on whirlwind knocks from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, the hosts piled up a mammoth total of 240 for 3 in the allotted 20 overs. Rahul and Rohit laid the foundation for the big total by adding 135 runs for the first wicket.

Rohit was the first wicket to fall after slamming 71 from just 34. India then promoted Rishabh Pant to number three but the youngster failed to get going and was out for a two-ball duck. But the breakthroughs did not bring any respite for West Indies as Virat Kohli piled more miseries on them along with Rahul.

Kohli went on to score a 21-ball fifty. The partnership was finally broken in the final over when Rahul departed for 91. Kohli, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 70 from just 29 balls.

The writing was very much on the wall for West Indies and they did little to challenge India. Barring skipper Kieron Pollard, who blasted 69 off just 39 balls, the other batsmen failed to deliver on the big day. West Indies were off to a disastrous start and were reeling at 17 for 3 before Pollard and Shimron Hetmyer stopped the rot by adding 74 runs.

But they kept losing wickets at regular intervals which never allowed their innings to get the impetus required for the huge chase. The Caribbean outfit eventually ended on 173 for 8.
