Axar Patel‘s performance with the bat in the fourth Test match between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was nothing short of impressive. Coming in to bat at number 7, Axar played a crucial role in helping India take control of the match.

After Virat Kohli had anchored the innings with a brilliant century, it was Axar Patel’s turn to showcase his skills. With the pitch offering plenty for the batters, still, the Australian bowlers were always going to be a handful. But Axar Patel, who is primarily known for his left-arm spin, showed that he is no mug with the bat either.

Despite facing some challenging deliveries from the likes of Todd Murphy and Nathan Lyon, Axar Patel held his own and was able to score runs at a steady pace. He took his time to settle in, but once he got his eye in, he played some delightful strokes.

It was a disappointing end to what had been another very important innings with the bat from Axar Patel. He had been batting with confidence and aggression, hitting five fours and four sixes in his innings of 79 runs off 113 balls. His innings had helped India build a strong total and put pressure on the Australian bowlers.

Mitchell Starc had been trying all afternoon to get Axar out but had been largely unsuccessful as he had been bowling mostly down the leg side. However, when he finally got the ball to pitch just outside off stump and tail back in, Axar was caught off guard.

Axar had been looking to attack with a drive, but the late movement of the ball back into the left-hander meant that he got an inside edge onto his middle stump

Despite his dismissal, Axar Patel can be proud of his contribution to the Indian team in this match. He had shown his ability to bat with patience and determination, as well as his attacking prowess when the opportunity arose.
