IPL 2021: ‘One Season Wonder, Honeymoon Period Over’: Twitterverse Slams Suryakumar Yadav Over His Flop Show

Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav was at the receiving end of some serious criticism from Twitterverse after his flop show in the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in UAE continued. Suryakumar has only one half-century in the IPL 2021 thus far and fell for 8 runs against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their recent match.

Mumbai Indians who were at the fifth spot in the IPL 2021 points table, faced off against the third spot holders Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Dubai on September 26, 2021, in the second match of the double-header day on Sunday.

Suryakumar Yadav And Mumbai Indians Crumble Before The RCB Bowling Might

The match against the Virat Kohli-led RCB was kind of a must-win encounter for the two-time defending champions Mumbai Indians who had 4 wins from 9 matches in the IPL 2021 thus far. Captain Rohit Sharma got lucky and won the toss, choosing to bowl first.

Virat Kohli made 51 after Devdutt Padikkal got out for a duck, and became the first Indian and fifth overall batter to make 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. Glenn Maxwell also hit a sublime 56 in 37 balls with Srikar Bharat making 32 with 2 fours and 2 sixes as Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a competitive 165/6 in 20 overs.

Rohit Sharma and co. started off well with the captain scoring 43 runs and fellow opener Quinton de Kock making 24 runs and the duo added 57 runs in 6.4 overs. However, their middle order’s poor run continued against the RCB, as Ishan Kishan made 9, Suryakumar Yadav made 8, Krunal Pandya made 5, Kieron Pollard got out for 7 and Hardik Pandya made 3 runs in his first outing for MI in UAE.

Then Harshal Patel came to the party and picked a hat-trick, removing Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Rahul Chahar, becoming the third bowler from the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp to take an IPL hat-trick after Praveen Kumar and Samuel Badree. He had earlier during the India leg of the tournament, had become the first bowler in IPL history to take a five-wicket haul against Mumbai Indians.

However, the Twitterverse was enraged at how the middle order played and especially the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, both of whom have been chosen in the Indian T20 World Cup 2021 squad.
