In a thrilling T20 international match played at SuperSport Park, South Africa, Quinton de Kock’s sensational innings helped South Africa complete the highest successful chase in the history of the format. De Kock’s maiden T20I century, off just 43 balls, was also the joint sixth-fastest in T20Is. The pitch was a batting paradise, resulting in a run-fest that saw a total of 517 runs scored – the highest ever in a T20 match. The batters hit 35 sixes, a new record for T20Is, and just two fewer than the highest ever in any T20 game.
West Indies opener Johnson Charles played a blinder of an innings, hitting 11 sixes on his way to the joint second-fastest T20I century, and the fastest by a West Indian. His team posted their highest-ever score in T20Is, but in the end, it was not enough to defend against South Africa’s chase.
The bowlers from both teams had a tough day, struggling to find their lengths on a flat pitch. Only South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada was able to keep the run rate under ten runs an over. Both sides bowled a significant number of wides, but the West Indies bowlers were particularly undisciplined, conceding 10 wides and a no-ball, which could have been a significant factor in the final result.
Twitter went onto a complete frenzy as these two sides took each other to the cleaners, having perhaps one of the best T20 games in the history of the game when it comes to run chases with South Africa coming out on the top.

South Africa have scaled a target of 259, the highest ever successful chase in T20 history.
That includes all kinds of T20s – men's internationals, leagues, domestic, women's international games, leagues and domestic. Everything!

Maybe I’m a minority on this one, but I think that this is exactly the sort of pitches that T20 cricket should be played on. And Tests on the other hand on seaming, turning wickets. Not sure what role ODIs play though. #SAvWI
