Twitter Reacts As India Start T20I Series With A Comfortable 6-Wicket Win Over West Indies

The first match of the three-match T20 International series between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Kieron Pollard-led West Indies National Cricket Team commenced at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday, February 16 and Rohit Sharma-led side won by 6 wickets.

India won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi made his debut. Captain Kieron Pollard made a comeback in the West Indies side after missing a few ODI games against India due to a niggle.

Experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the first breakthrough for India in the first over itself. He dismissed Brandon King in the 5th ball of the first over. Deepak Chahar bowled the second over and he gave away 8 runs. West Indies batters scored 6,7,10 and 9 runs in the next 4 overs and at the end of the powerplay, West Indies were at 44/1.

Just after the powerplay leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Kyle Mayers, who scored 31 runs off 24 runs including 7 fours, in the 5th ball of the 7th over.

Meanwhile, debutant Ravi Bishnoi produced a 2-wicket over in the 11th over of the West Indies innings. He dismissed Roston Chase, who only managed to score 4 runs off 10 balls and Rovman Powell who scored 2 runs off 3 balls. Also, West Indies lost Akeal Hosein in the 5th ball of the 14th over and at the end of the 15th over they were at 96/5.

The 16th and 17th overs turned out to be big ones for the West Indies as batters Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard managed to add 29 runs in two overs. In the 18th over Harshal Patel gave away 10 runs but picked a huge wicket of Nicholas Pooran.

Explosive batsman Nicholas Pooran was the top run-getter for West Indies as he managed to score 61 runs off 43 balls including 4 fours and 5 sixes.

In the 19th and 20th over, West Indies batters managed to score just 12 and 10 runs and West Indies were able to post 157 runs on the board.

While chasing the target Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan managed to score only 3 runs in the first over. Then, captain Rohit Sharma decided to go berserk against the West Indies bowling unit and he smashed the bowlers all over the park.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Roston Chase in the 8th over and the Indian skipper managed to score 40 runs off 19 balls including 4 fours and 3 sixes. After Rohit’s wicket India lost wickets at regular intervals as Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant got out in the 12th, 13th and 15th over.

In the end, middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav and fast-bowling all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer guided India towards a comfortable 6-wicket victory with Venkatesh Iyer finishing off in style by smashing a six.
