India finished the 4th day at 1/52 after England, riding on Joe Root’s imperious ton, set the visitors a target of 209.

Resuming their innings on the fourth morning, England got off to a poor start as Rory Burns once again nicked off to the keeper, this time against Mohammed Siraj.

Jasprit Bumrah soon got in the act as he induced an outside edge off Zak Crawley’s bat to leave England reeling at 2/46.

But, once again it was Joe Root who proved to be a thorn in India’s flesh as he picked off from where he had left in the first innings and launched a sustained counterattack on Indian bowlers.

While Dom Sibley played in his typical style, Joe Root ensured that he kept the scoreboard ticking as he regularly cut, drove and flicked every time the Indian seamers erred in line or length.

Root and Sibley wiped off the deficit as they stitched an 89-run-stand for the third wicket.

But once again Sibley threw it away as he aimed for a non-existent drive and ended up getting an inside edge off Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant completed a brilliant catch while diving to his left.

Jonny Bairstow, just like Joe Root, came out with aggressive intent, stroking 4 fours during his 50-ball 30 before he fell against the run-of-play when he holed out at deep square leg while trying to pull Mohammed Siraj.

Shardul Thakur gave India a crucial breakthrough in the form of Dan Lawrence, who was looking quite dangerous during his 32-ball 25.

Thakur, after having served a juicy delivery on Lawrence pads, trapped the former with a straight delivery.

Jos Buttler looked good during his 22-ball 17 before he made an error in judgment against Thakur and ended up getting bowled immediately after the Tea break.

Joe Root endured a few nervy moments as he neared his hundred but the England captain eventually got to the milestone with a brilliant drive down the ground.

Sam Curran (32) and Root added another 39 runs to the tally before Jasprit Bumrah struck with the new ball to account for the England skipper.

Ollie Robinson too came out all guns blazing but Bumrah dismissed Curran and Stuart Broad on consecutive deliveries to give India a breather.

Bumrah claimed his second five-wicket haul in Nottingham and his sixth overall. Mohammed Shami had a poor day with the ball as he looked completely out of rhythm and was guilty of bowling it either too wide or on the legs.

He, however, capped off a poor day with a wicket as Robinson holed out at deep third-man.

England got bowled out for 303, setting India a target of 209 in the 4th innings. KL Rahul once again batted well during his 38-ball 26 before Stuart Broad produced an absolute jaffa that angled away to take the opener’s outside edge.
